Just a few months after the standard Countryman line-up was updated for 2021, MINI has now pulled the wraps off the 2021 JCW version – the most powerful, range-topping variant of the Countryman.
In May, MINI had given us the first glimpse of the new and updated 2021 Countryman, the largest model in its product portfolio. The 2021 Countryman came along with a heavily reworked exterior as well as some changes in the interior. Now, MINI has updated the range-topping variant of the Countryman for 2021 – the John Cooper Works (JCW) Countryman. The 2021 JCW Countryman will make its commercial debut in November 2020.
If you look at the standard Countryman variant line-up, the petrol plug-in hybrid Cooper Countryman SE ALL4 is the most powerful version, offering 217bhp. The JCW version, however, offers next-level performance with a power output of 302bhp & 450Nm from its 2.0-litre four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and ALL4 all-wheel-drive system, giving it a 0 to 100km/h time of just 5.1 seconds.
Coming to the exterior, the 2021 JCW Countryman shares a lot of the new bits with the standard 2021 Countryman, such as the LED headlamps, LED taillamps with the Union Jack-inspired light signature, and the new radiator grille. The bumpers, however, have been given the JCW treatment. Large air intakes at the front and an updated diffuser insert at the back are the key changes. The Sport exhaust system gets added appeal with enlarged silver tailpipes (95mm diameter).
Two exterior colours (white silver metallic and sage green metallic) are new, with an optional piano black exterior, in which the headlamp surrounds, rear lights, and radiator grille are finished in high-gloss black instead of chrome, along with the door handles and the lettering on the boot lid.
In terms of standard features, the 2021 JCW Countryman offers sports brakes with 4-piston callipers at the front and single-piston floating-calliper disc brakes at the back, 18-inch John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels, JCW-tuned suspension, DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), and electromechanical steering. The brake callipers have been finished in Chili Red. An adaptive chassis is available as an optional extra.
