This new generation Audi A4 will initially only come with a 1.4-litre petrol engine. The diesel model will be launched at a later point of time.
Audi has officially announced the introduction of the next-generation A4 on September 8. This luxury sedan has been one of the most popular models in the Audi portfolio since its launch in 2008.
Based on the new MLB evo platform, the new Audi A4 sheds an impressive 95kg from its predecessor. Hiding under the hood of the 2016 A4 is a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor that generates 150PS of power and peak torque of 250Nm. This unit comes mated to a 7-speed S Tronic transmission. Audi will bring in only this petrol trim at the time of the launch, the diesel variant will be introduced soon after.
In the design department, the new A4’s silhouette looks somewhat identical to its predecessor. That aside the A4 gets a fresh 3D protruding grille that is typical of all new Audi models. Complementing the swooping bonnet and the grille are the sleek headlamps with the Daytime Running Lamps. At the back the new A4 gets an edgy boot line and LED tail lamps. In terms of overall dimensions, the new A4 is now longer and wider than its predecessor.
The interior of the new A4 has been reworked too. The most easily noticeable change in the cabin is the addition of the ‘Virtual Cockpit’ which is a 12.3-inch TFT screen that displays navigation and all infotainment data along with the usual speedometer, tachometer et al. Other changes include an updated MMI with improved user interface, a redesigned dashboard that now feels a lot more premium and more comfortable leather seats.
When launched, the new A4 will compete against the likes of the recently introduced, BMW 320i, Jaguar XE and the Mercedes-Benz C200. The new 2016 Audi A4 is expected to be priced around the Rs 40 lakh mark.
