Subsequent to its global debut last year, Mini’s largest offering will finally make its way to India

In India, Mini currently has three models in their product portfolio – the Cooper, Cooper Convertible and the Countryman. Now the British car maker is all set to expand by introducing the Clubman on December 15. The Clubman, at 4,275mm in length, will be the largest Mini when it goes on sale later this month. The Clubman is 270mm longer than the 5-door Cooper and at 2,670mm its wheelbase is 103mm larger. It is wider too, albeit just by 73mm. But there is more to the Mini Clubman than just its dimensions.

Despite being the largest Mini on offer, it retains the distinctive appeal that the brand is known for. The circular headlamps and fog lamps, the rounded ORVMs as well as the large grille quirky grille are typically Mini. The silhouette too is unmistakable, as is the body cladding that runs along the wheel arches and the bottom of the door. The prime differentiating factor between the Clubman and the other Minis is the split tailgate. The two doors at the back of the Clubman ensure ease while loading luggage. Being larger in dimension, it also has a larger boot capacity of 360 litres. Fold the seats flat and you can increase the luggage space to a considerable 1,250 litres.

The inside of the Clubman has Mini written all over it too. The circular analogue instrument cluster as well as the centre console, gives it a retro-modern appeal. The Clubman will come fitted with features that none of the other Mini models have on offer, including an electronic parking brake, electric seat adjustment and an automatic tailgate.

Under the hood, however, the Clubman will come with 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol motor makes peak power of 189bhp while the diesel churns out 148bhp. Torque ratings stand at 350Nm and 280Nm respectively. Both engines come mated to BMW’s 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Mini Clubman will come to India via the CBU route. Expect it to be priced around the Rs 40 lakh mark.
