Mini Clubman gets John Cooper Works treatment

BMW Group has revealed the all new Mini Clubman with John Cooper Works specifications. The Clubman JCW gets a more powerful engine with upgraded brakes, suspension, cooling in addition to exterior and interior styling.

Mini has revealed the John Cooper Works version of the Clubman, making it the most powerful version of the car with 231hp.

BMW Group has revealed the all new Mini Clubman with John Cooper Works specifications. The Clubman JCW gets a more powerful engine with upgraded brakes, suspension, cooling in addition to exterior and interior styling.

A 231hp 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine, with Valvetronic variable valve control. Mated to a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed Sports Steptronic automatic gearboxes, the engine churns out 350Nm of maximum torque. Spawned off the same engine as the Cooper S, this engine is tuned to produce 39hp more in the JCW specification. The Clubman JCW also gets MINI’s ALL4 all-wheel drive system.

To manage the power upgrade, the suspension has been firmed up and tailored to the Clubman’s wheelbase and weight distribution. Despite being tuned to be stiffer for better performance, the Clubman JCW still gets the Variable Damper Control which can be control with the three channel driving modes “Green”, “MID” and “SPORT”. The system also manages the car’s traction control system, throttle response and gear changes.

As standard, the Clubman JCW gets Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) also includes Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) - which acts as an electronic locking function for the front axle differential. The brakes have also been upgraded to a four-piston caliper setup developed in partnership with Brembo with the calipers finished in red.

The standard JCW trim in the Clubman gets sports seats in Carbon Black upholstery with Dinamica/fabric with integrated headrests which can be trimmed in Dinamica/Carbon Black leather with red accents as an optional extra. In addition, you get a leather wrapped steering wheel, JCW branded door sill covers, gear lever, stainless steel pedals and instrument cluster. The headliner is finished in anthracite and the cabin gets a ‘Grey Chequered’ trim with red accentuated stitching on the steering wheel, the centre console and gear lever.

The Mini John Cooper Works Clubman is now on sale in the United Kingdom for a price of £29,345 (~ Rs. 24.7 lakh). The standard Clubman Cooper S has recently been launched in India for Rs. 37.9 lakh. Wheather the JCW option will come to India remains to be seen.
