Coinciding with the launch of Facebook page, the brand has also unveiled its first official brand film, which is claimed to be developed for the Indian audience.
Morris Garages, or MG Motor as it is popularly known, has announced the launch of its India Facebook page, the company’s first social media consumer touchpoint for the country. The brand’s accessibility will be further expanded to other social media platforms in a phased manner in upcoming months.
In July this year, China-based SAIC Motor Corporation - MG Motor’s parent company - announced that it will be entering the Indian automobile market by 2019. Though SAIC owns many automotive marquees, it decided to start its Indian innings with the British brand MG Motor, which the company acquired in 2009.
Then, in September this year, MG inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat. The Halol plant isn’t a newly established manufacturing facility - SAIC bought it from General Motors (GM) - which abruptly decided to quit India in May, 2017. Buying GM’s plant was a logical decision for SAIC, as both companies share a strategic alliance globally. Now, MG Motor is in the process of investing Rs. 2,000 crore to upgrade the plant as per their requirements.
At the moment, there is no clarity on which MG models will make it to India by 2019. However, rumours suggest that the firm will launch an SUV as its debut product. You can watch MG Motor India’s official brand film below.
