MG Motor India has finally announced the prices for the MG Hector, which we're certain are going to take the competitors by complete surprise!
Morris Garages India has hit the ground running today, as it has finally launched its first product in India, the much-anticipated MG Hector. While almost everything about the car is known by now, we start off with the one unknown factor that has had all of us on our toes, namely, its price. As we informed earlier, the Hector will be sold in four variants – Style, Super, Smart & the top-spec Sharp. While the base Style variant (Petrol MT) carries an introductory ex-showroom price tag of ₹12.18 lakh, the range continues up to ₹16.88 lakh for the top Sharp variant (Diesel MT). Now, here's a brief recap of what the Hector offers to the discerning MG customers in India.
Engine & Performance
The MG Hector will be offered with two petrol engine options & a single diesel option. While the oil-burner unit is the same 2.0-litre turbocharged FCA-sourced unit that powers the Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier, the gasoline unit is a 1.5-litre turbocharged intercooler motor. The petrol engine, however, gets a 48V mild-hybrid option as well. The petrol version pumps out 141bhp and 250Nm of torque, but the hybrid version is capable of providing an additional boost of 20Nm. The diesel unit, in the Hector, is tuned to put out 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. While the diesel and petrol hybrid iterations will only be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the non-hybrid petrol version will additionally be offered with a 6-speed automatic DCT.
Connectivity
This is where the Hector poses a real & mighty threat to its competitors. It has been launched in India with MG's i-Smart connectivity suite, which offers 50+ connected car features. The Hector gets this capability through an embedded, 5G-enabled SIM from Airtel. Apart from Airtel, other renowned names associated with the i-Smart system include Microsoft, AccuWeather, Adobe, Gaana, SAP, TomTom, Unlimit, Cisco and Panasonic, amongst others. Further, the connectivity features get a dash of convenience too with the i-Smart technology app. In short, a major chunk of the Hector's functionality can be overseen using this smartphone app.
Key highlights of the i-Smart system:
- 5G-ready M2M embedded SIM with IPv6
- Over-The-Air (OTA) update facility
- Remote access via i-Smart Technology smartphone app
- Geofencing
- Emergency services
- Voice Assistant
- Smart Drive vehicle stats
- Find My Car feature
- Vehicle Diagnostics/Scan
