Following its official unveil on May 15, 2019, bookings for the MG Hector will commence on June 4, 2019, confirmed the company. The Hector is going to be MG’s first market launch in India, and prospective buyers will be able to book the new SUV at 120 outlets across 50 cities. Bookings can also be made online on MG India’s official website – mgmotor.co.in – starting 12pm on the same day.
With the Hector, MG Motor India will be entering the Indian market soon. So, there’s no denying that there’s a lot riding on its shoulders. Given how crucial this vehicle is for MG’s fortunes in India, the company is leaving no stone unturned to create hype around the Hector. In addition to that, the Hector will be packed with features, and it'll also come with some segment firsts, such as a 48V mild-hybrid architecture and connected technologies.
The MG Hector will be launched in both petrol and diesel versions. The petrol engine will be a 1.5-litre turbo unit that develops 141bhp and 250Nm. This engine will have another iteration, where it’ll have the aforementioned 48V hybrid system, which allows an additional boost of around 20Nm. The diesel version will come powered by a 2.0-litre mill, rated at 168bhp and 350Nm. A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic will be offered with the petrol derivatives.
Feature list will include a 10.4-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a TomTom sourced navigation system, AccuWeather for weather updates and Gaana app for music. Among other highlights, there’s hill hold, traction control, 3-point seat belts for all passengers and disc brakes all around. The top-of-the-line variant will also come with electrically-adjustable front seats, one-touch operated boot lid, a 360-degree camera, six airbags, a panoramic sunroof and more.
The MG Hector will compete with the likes of the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500. Its prices, as a result, should hover between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hector will be produced at the company’s manufacturing unit in Halol. While the launch date isn’t confirmed as yet, the Hector is expected to hit the showroom floors mid-June 2019. MG also claims that by September this year, they’ll expand their sales network to 250 outlets.
