The MG Hector and the Hector Plus now only get a CVT as the go-to option for buyers looking for an automatic SUV. Also, the brand has increased the prices of its SUVs with I.C engines.
The MG Hector and the Hector Plus are offered with two engine options, one petrol and one diesel. While the diesel engine only comes mated to a manual transmission, the petrol had a choice of three gearbox options, a six-speed manual, a CVT and a six-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission).
Now, the brand has silently pulled the plug on Hector and Hector Plus variants which feature the turbo-petrol DCT drivetrain. So buyers looking for an automatic Hector or the Hector Plus are left with only one option – the turbo-petrol motor paired to a CVT.
The Hector being MG’s one of the most popular and successful products, the carmaker has shown no signs of introducing the diesel-automatic variant of the SUV. Despite the fact, the Hector (and Hector Plus) use the same – FCA sourced – 2.0-litre diesel motor which is offered in the Tata Harrier, Tata Safari and Jeep Compass. The Harrier and the Safari get an automatic transmission which has been sourced from Hyundai, and the Compass features a nine-speed auto-box as well. It is about time, MG upgrades the diesel variant of the Hector with an automatic transmission.
In other news, MG Motors India has discontinued a few variants of some of its products and has upped the prices as well.
The MG Hector has seen a price increase of Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 70,000, whereas, the Hector Plus has seen its price go up between Rs. 49,000 and Rs. 69,000.
Also, The MG Astor has seen its first price hike. The Astor is now dearer by Rs. 22,000-30,000 depending on the variants. While the entry-level MG has seen an upward price revision, the MG Gloster, which is the brand’s flagship SUV, has seen a price hike as well. The prices of the MG Gloster have gone up by Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.30 lakh depending on the variant.
