MG Motor has launched the Comet, its second electric vehicle in the Indian market after the ZS EV. It is billed as one of the most affordable electric cars in India, with prices starting at Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom). For people planning to buy the electric vehicle, the bookings for the same will begin on May 15, followed by its deliveries. The micro electric car has two doors and seats 4 people. According to the company, it can comfortably squirt out of city congestion because of its telescoping steering wheel adjustability and a small turning radius of 4.2 metres, making it an ideal option for urban commuters. For those unaware, it is based on the Wuling Air EV available in the Indonesian market and designed on the concept of BICO (Big Inside, Compact Outside). The Comet EV is manufactured at the company's plant in Halol, Gujarat. It gets 3 drive modes - Eco, Normal, and Sport and is offered in 5 colour options, along with Sticker styles and Lit packs.

MG Comet EV: Exterior, Interior
The new Comet EV from MG Motor India is built around SAIC's Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform and based on the Wuling Air EV sold in Indonesia. Up front, the boxy-looking EV receives a closed grille, a full-width LED strip, stylish headlamps, disc brakes, and the easily noticeable bumper. Besides, the car has a rear-view mirror design with a floating motif, 12-inch alloy wheels, drum brakes, and LED lamps. The suspension on the Comet EV uses McPherson struts at the front and a multi-link coil setup at the rear.
Inside, the Comet sports a two-spoked steering wheel with pod-like controls and two 10.25-inch digital panels for infotainment system and instrumentation. The infotainment system supports voice control, navigation, and widgets with 3 customisable pages. Other bits include 55+ connected car features, manual air conditioning with rotary dials, 12-Volt charging port, and more. A striking feature of the MG Comet is its smart key that adds to the Tech-Vibe of the car, as per the company.
In terms of safety, features include 17 hot stamping panels, a rear parking camera and sensor, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child mounts, and 3-point seat belts at the front and rear.

MG Comet EV: Battery, Powertrain
The Comet EV houses a 17.3kWh battery pack that offers a claimed driving range of up to 230 kilometre on a full charge. It can be charged from 0 to 100 per cent in about 7 hours and 10 to 80 per cent in 5 hours, using a 3.3kW charger.
Powering the hatchback is a single PMS (Permanent Magnet Synchronous) motor mounted over its rear axle. The motor has a power output of 42bhp and a peak torque of 110Nm. It is claimed that the electric car offers a top speed of 100km/h.
MG Comet EV: Dimensions
Dimensionally, the micro-electric hatchback stands 1,640mm tall and measures 2,974mm in length and 1,505mm in width. It has a wheelbase of 2,010mm.
MG Comet EV: Rivals
Priced at Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom), the Comet EV competes against the Citroen eC3, the Tata Tiago EV, and the Tigor EV to secure the top place in the urban EV segment.
