MG Motor India launched its second electric model - the Comet, in India at a starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the compact hatchback began on May 15 at Rs 11,000. And now, the carmaker has started dispatching the model in the country phase-wise. In our market, the electric car is available in three variants: Pace, Play, and Plush. The base version Pace costs Rs 7.98 lakh, whereas the mid-spec Play and top-spec Plush models are priced at Rs 9.28 lakh, and Rs 9.98 lakh, respectively. These rates are valid for the first 5,000 pre-orders and can increase later, according to MG. Here are details in the form of powertrain, features, and specs that you should consider before planning to house this new EV from MG in your garage.

MG Comet: Powertrain
The all-new electric car from the MG's stable is driven by a 17.3kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor. It generates 41bhp of maximum power and 110Nm of peak torque. Further, the electric hatchback has a driving range of 230 kilometre on a single full charge and can be charged from 0 to 100% in seven hours using a 3.3 kW charger.
MG Comet: Dimensions & Features
The brand-new electric hatchback is 1,640mm in height, 2,974mm in length, and 1,505mm in width. Further, it has a 2,010mm wheelbase. In terms of features, the new MG car includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7.25-inch fully digital instrument console, an illuminated MG logo, TPMS, a reverse parking camera, i-Smart connected car technology, OTA updates, 12-inch steel wheels, etc. However, the feature equipment list differs according to the variant.
MG Comet: Design
A full-width LED light bar and a chrome strip linking the wing mirrors have been added to the EV's front end. There is also a vertical glass for the backseat passengers on the Comet and a full-width light bar at the rear. The Comet EV rides on 12-inch wheels. Aside from this, with an illuminated MG emblem on the flap, MG has hidden the Comet's charging port under the front light bar. Inside, the Pace version of the EV comes with a starlight-black theme, whereas the other versions feature a dual-tone white and grey interior.

MG Comet: Market Rivals
Priced at Rs 7.98 lakh (introductory), the new EV from MG is significantly cheaper than the Tata Tiago EV, which costs between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 11.99 lakh. However, keep in mind that the pricing of the Comet is only valid for the first 5000 reservations and will reportedly rise after that. It will also go against the Citroen eC3 in our market, which retails between Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 12.43 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
