As part of its plans to introduce at least one new model every 3–6 months starting this festive season, MG (Morris Garages) is set to launch its Cloud EV in India in September 2024, over a year after it launched the Wuling Air-based Comet EV in the country. This will make it the third electric offering in MG's India line-up, already including the ZS EV. Market reports suggest that MG Motor India could position the Cloud EV competitively – under Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) – in terms of pricing. And for that, we expect the model to be heavily localised, including its battery pack. Upon arrival, the new Cloud EV from the company will be a contender to the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, BYD e6, Mahindra XUV400, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX.

There have been several sightings of the Cloud EV test mules on our roads, as well as MG recently filed a patent request for the electric model. So, here's what you can expect from MG's Cloud EV this year:

MG Cloud EV: Design, Dimensions

Like the Comet EV, SAIC will sell the Cloud EV under the MG brand name in India. At about 4,300mm in length, the MG Cloud EV is slightly smaller than the Kia Carens and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, while the wheelbase of the electric model stands at 2,700mm.

Design-wise, the MG Cloud EV crossover is expected to have a big front fascia with a full-width LED light bar, closed-off grille, wide air dam, and projector headlamps. Elsewhere, the model could sport flush door handles, front door-mounted outside rearview mirrors, a wrap-around glasshouse, and an integrated spoiler.

MG Cloud EV: Interior

Inside, clean, horizontal lines on the dashboard and door trims are likely to add to the car's minimalistic design language. Features-wise, one can expect twin digital displays (infotainment and instrumentation), horizontally-positioned AC vents, connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, climate control, powered seats, a 360-degree camera, and an ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) suite.

MG Cloud EV: Powertrain

In the international market, the MG Cloud EV gets two battery options – 37.9kWh (with a 360km range) and 50.6kWh (with a 460km range). Irrespective of the battery pack, the EV is powered by a front-axle mounted, permanent magnet synchronous motor churning out 132bhp. We expect a 50.6kWh powertrain with an electric motor to be introduced in India.
