MG Cloud EV Spied Testing in India for the First Time; Expected Launch in 2025
MG Motor India is expected to launch the production version of the Cloud EV by next year and has already filed a design patent for it here.
MG Motor is planning to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in India. The brand's current EV lineup includes models like the ZS EV and the Comet EV. Soon, the company will introduce its third electric product to the market, giving customers more options within the category. According to reports, the upcoming battery-powered vehicle will be built around the all-electric Wuling Cloud. Recently, a Cloud electric MPV test mule was spotted testing in our country for the first time. Even though the test mule was completely concealed by heavy camouflage, a few significant details and distinguishing features have been doing rounds on the internet. The disguised mule bore a resemblance in form to its global counterparts. It appears more like a crossover MPV since it resembles a big hatch with a relatively low roofline. MG India is expected to launch the production version of the Cloud EV by next year and has already filed a design patent for it here. Read on to learn more.
MG Cloud EV: Design Cues
The MG Cloud EV's front profile features an LED lighting strip that spans the width of the vehicle. Moreover, the large bumper integrates the primary headlight units. There are no sharp elements visible throughout the body and only smooth, basic lines on the side profile. The floating roof design has a blacked-out roof and pillars. In addition, flushed-out door handles for a premium, clean appearance, and ORVMs are mounted on the front door. Other exterior components comprise multi-spoke alloy wheels, LED taillamps, a rear bumper with a number plate recess, and a charging port on the left front fender.
MG Cloud EV: Dimensions
Dimension-wise, the upcoming MG electric compact MPV will likely measure 1,850mm in width, 4,295mm in length, and 1,652mm in height when it arrives on the market. In the form of a 5-seater configuration, the India-spec version is anticipated to maintain the same seating arrangement as the global-spec model.
MG Cloud EV: Interior Layout and Features
Apart from the exterior, the Cloud EV's interior layout has also surfaced. There are very few physical buttons in the cockpit; instead, most functions are accessed via the massive screens or by controls located on the steering wheel. An 8.8-inch full-LCD instrument console, a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, and a 15.6-inch centre control screen make up the three displays that are present inside the cabin.
On top of this, a wide range of connectivity options and functions will be available through the incorporated LingOS 2.0 ecological cockpit on the screens. Expected noteworthy features include manual IRVM, a panoramic sunroof, a 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, rear AC vents, and a wireless smartphone charger. The fact that the Cloud EV might come equipped with six airbags and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) indicates that MG Motor and JSW are expected to give a high priority to the safety quotient.
MG Cloud EV: Battery Specs
In the international market, the Baojun Cloud EV is available with two different battery capacities: 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh, which correspond to a stated range of 360-kilometre and 460-kilometre when fully charged. However, which versions and battery capacities MG Motor would provide in India is still unknown. When it launches next year, the Cloud EV will go up against the BYD e6.
