Heavily armored Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard comes with VR9 ballistic protection.
Mercedes-Maybach has come up with the armored version of the S600 Pullman. It goes by the name of Pullman Guard, and packs all the luxury of the Mercedes’ flagship S600 Maybach Pullman saloon, albeit in a body-shell that has VR9 ballistic protection. What that means is that it can withstand gunfire and small explosive attacks from a number of weapons while the occupants are cocooned in safety in the luxurious confines of the car.
The S600 Pullman Guard is based around the ‘regular’ model, but comes with some serious bit of armour. This includes PE components throughout the exterior body while the windows are coated in polycarbonate and are hydraulically operated. All told it’s still a 6.5 meter long luxo-barge, but thanks to the addition of the armour and protection, it now weighs 5.1 tonnes!
Other than that, the S600 Pullman Guard looks exactly the same as the non-armored version. Even on the mechanical front it does not get any updates. This means it is fitted with the same twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine delivering 523bhp and 830 Nm of torque. The top-speed, however, is limited to 160 km/h since that additional weight had to show up somewhere.
Inside, everything remains same, too. You get all the luxury equipment and modern day in-car features as available in the standard S600 Pullman. Four-people can sit facing each other at the back in utter luxury inside the saloon.
Getting all that luxury and VR9-level protection will cost you a bit though. Mercedes is quoting the price of the 5600 Pullman Guard at 1.4 million euros (around Rs 10.5 crore)! If you order one now, you will only get the car in the second half of 2017.
