Mercedes-Benz has decided to take its Indian portfolio to the next level with the launch of ultra-luxurious Maybach sub-brand. Under this, two cars have been launched in India - the locally assembled S500 and the even more premium S600 which comes via the CBU route.

The Mercedes-Maybach is 207mm longer than the S-Class, the car which it is based on. The additional length is used to provide extra comfort to the rear passengers.

The rear passengers also benefit from reduced noise, for Mercedes claims the Maybach to be the ‘World’s Quietest Production Sedan’. This has been made possible by positioning the passengers away from the side windows and using special seats that optimise the noise insulation.

The feature list of the Maybach comprise of AIRMATIC suspension, nappa leather upholstery, Burmester 3D surround system, seven colour ambient lighting, and chauffeur package, among others.

Safety hasn’t been compromised in the name of luxury, with the Maybach cars fitted with a total of 12 airbags, Night View Assist Plus, 360° camera, Crosswind assist and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. It also comes equipped with rear seat belt bags - an inflatable seat belt strap that reduces the load on the ribcage in a front impact.

One gets AMG-like performance from both cars under the Maybach sub-brand. The S500 is powered by a 4663 cc V8 bi-turbo engine that produces 459 bhp and 700 Nm of peak torque. The S600 takes the power figures even further: with a V12 bi-turbo engine under the hood, the flagship Mercedes-Maybach is capable of churning out 530 bhp of power and 830 NM of torque.

Coming to the pricing part, the locally assembled Mercedes-Maybach S500 is available for Rs 1.67 crore (ex-showroom, Pune), while the S600 is a tad more expensive at Rs 2.6 crore (ex-showroom Pune), being imported  to India through the CBU route.
