Mercedes Bids Adieu to The Iconic 6.3-litre V8 with AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport Edition
At the 2024 Monterey Car Week, Mercedes-Benz AMG unveiled the AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport, marking the end of its series of successful naturally aspirated GT3 race cars based on the AMG GT sports car.
Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the limited-edition AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport to celebrate its 130 years of motorsport heritage. This exclusive race car honours the brand’s storied past, which began on July 22, 1894, when a Daimler-powered vehicle won the Paris-Rouen race, marking the first motorsport victory for the iconic Three-Pointed Star. To commemorate this significant milestone, Mercedes-AMG has produced just 13 units of the AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport, making it an exclusive collector's item. This edition is particularly noteworthy as it represents the final iteration of the legendary 6.3-litre V8 engine in the AMG GT3, a powertrain that has become synonymous with the brand’s racing success.
Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport: Design
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport’s exterior pays tribute to the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL W 194, the brand’s first fixed-roof race car from 1952. This special edition also sports a silver paint job with distinctive blue accents on the front fenders and radiator grille. The design echoes the SLs that won the 1952 Carrera Panamericana with Hans Klenk and Karl Kling, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Hermann Lang and Fritz Riess.
