For its scheduled launch in 2017, Mercedes has finally revealed their new Pick-up truck concept X-Class.
Mercedes-Benz has made a nine figure investment to develop an all new pick-up truck called the X-Class. The investment and the statements from Mercedes assure that the car will go into production next year. The highly awaited German luxury pick-up track has finally been revealed.
Mercedes has revealed the concept X-Class in two variations. The first is the Concept X-Class ‘stylish explorer’ which features a cool metallic white painted exterior. The only job for this concept is to be “Cool”, which is what its design philosophy is actually called. The front of the truck features a more accentuated grille with the three-pointed-star right in the middle, which looks more like the ones found on the AMG GT, with only a single slat. The bonnet has massive power bulge and a more chiselled and swept back headlamp which is completely different from any other Mercedes in the current line up.
The flared wheel arches are there to cover the massive 22-inch light alloy wheels that give the car a wide track for it to be an able off roader. The running boards are integrated into the bodywork and a continuous LED light strip surrounds the tailgate acting as the tail lamp on the concept vehicle. Its easily visible that Mercedes pulled every trick in the book to make this concept a stylish and sporty pick-up truck.
The Concept X-Class ‘powerful adventurer’ is the second variation of the truck Mercedes has unveiled. The truck has been designed to be a more utilitarian than a muscular ballet dancer. This concept has a ‘lemonax’ metallic durable exterior paint job and the vehicle is designed to deliver a combination of comfort, style and utility in one package, the true essence of a Pick-Up truck.
The Concept X-CLASS powerful adventurer has a total height of 1.90 metres, and if you thought the other concept has big wheels, this one has a 35x11.50 tyres with a massive ground clearance. The styling of this vehicle differs in many ways from the former. For starters, the front grille now has a sportier and aggressive chrome finished twin slats instead of single one, with the logo in the middle. It features a winch at the front and a metal hook at the rear, in addition to front and rear underride guard, wing claddings, and matte carbon wheel arches.
Mercedes have not as yet revealed engine details of the car, but has confirmed that the top of the range will a V6 diesel engine and the 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive and combine an electronic traction system, a transfer case with reduction gear, and two differential locks.
Mercedes will place the X-Class in the segment of mid-size pickups and will put the car into production in 2017 in collaboration with Renault-Nissan Alliance. The major target markets for the truck will be Europe, South Africa, and Australia, for which the truck will be manufactured at the Nissan plant in Barcelona, Spain, in 2017. For the Latin American market, the Renault Plant in Cordoba, Argentina will start manufacturing the vehicle in 2018.
