At CES 2024, luxury German carmaker Mercedes-Benz introduced the new MB.OS operating system, with a virtual assistant driven by Artificial Intelligence. It is said to be quicker, more effective, and have greater processing power and responsiveness than the current operating system. Mercedes-Benz will integrate this in-house created software into the production version of the Concept CLA Class and other Mercedes vehicles with the new MMA architecture. Its improved MBUX virtual assistant uses generative AI and a unique large language model to provide greater natural speech feedback and dialogues. Almost all major automakers are gradually incorporating artificial intelligence to improve the driving experience of their vehicles. Volkswagen recently declared that by the end of the second quarter of this year, ChatGPT from OpenAI will be incorporated into its cars. Mercedes-Benz's AI-powered MBUX Virtual Assistant is now poised to completely transform the in-car experience for its customers. Here's all you need to know about this software.
Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz Operating System: Some Key Highlights
According to the carmaker, the new MB.OS can offer specific recommendations based on routines, facilitate more natural speech input, and engage in discussions. Apart from rescheduling meetings on the calendar in case the driver is running late, the virtual assistant can also reserve parking ahead of time, suggest routes based on the driver's regular travels, and summarise menus and reviews of nearby eateries.
The system offers 3D navigation with clear graphics and comprehensive driving instructions. The navigation display of the system will integrate vehicles and road signs in the vicinity. Additionally, the screen can provide real-time augmented reality instructions and recommend particular lanes. The new 3D navigation will display buildings, weather conditions, and the time of day. Mercedes-Benz claims that these features will improve the decision-making capabilities of drivers and reduce confusion in congested urban traffic.
Moreover, Mercedes-Benz’s new operating system will also include Audible and Amazon Music. When listening to music, radio plays, or audiobooks, the car's audio system, will synchronize the speakers, ambient lighting, and other elements.
