The new SLC is a refreshed version of the SLK roadster featuring more tech and revised styling. India gets the top of the line SLC 43 AMG performance oriented model first.
Mercedes-Benz India has officially launched the SLC convertible in India with the introduction of the performance oriented SLC 43 AMG model. The Mercedes-Benz SLC 43 AMG is the top of the line variant of the new sports car, sporting a price tag of Rs. 77.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Being the successor to the Mercedes-Benz SLK hard top convertible, the new SLC too comes with a folding metal roof. The car is based on the same Mercedes-Benz R172 platform of the company. But now comes loaded with more technology and refreshed styling.
Ola Kallenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales & Marketing: "In 1996 Mercedes-Benz redefined the roadster with its innovative vario-roof, and combined open-air driving pleasure with uncompromised comfort in poor weather. The renamed compact roadster remains an ideal combination of passion and rational common sense, appealing to both the heart and the mind."
While the SLC 43 AMG comes with a more powerful engine, it will compete against segment rivals such as the BMW Z4 and Audi TT. The new Mercedes SLC 43 AMG is powered by a 3.0 litre Biturbo V6 petrol engine with 356bhp of max power and 520Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to Mercedes’ nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. This combination gives the car a 0 – 100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.
For those of you wondering about the change in name of the car, the SLC name is part of the brand’s restructuring of name plates. ‘SLC’ indicates that this is the convertible equivalent of the C-Class model. While SLK originally stood for Sporty (Sportlich), Light (Leicht) and Short (Kurz), in German.
