Mercedes-Benz introduces the S-Class S400 in the Indian market, which slots below the more powerful S500 in the model range.
Mercedes-Benz has added yet another variant to the S-Class range in India. Christened the S400, the brand new iteration of the company’s flagship sedan is priced at Rs 1.31 crore (ex-showroom, Hyderabad). Mercedes-Benz India will be assembling the S400 locally for the domestic market. The S-Class range for India is now a 9 model strong line-up including the AMG, Maybach and regular versions of the car.
The S400 joins the S350 CDI and S500 in the S-Class saloon range. On the outside, or inside, there’s not much to report since the S400 looks largely identical to the other two variants. The main highlight of the sedan actually lies under the hood. It comes powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that churns out 328bhp and 480Nm. Power is transmitted to rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission.
The S400 will be aimed at buyers looking for a more efficient petrol alternative to the V8 powered S500 in the range. Although, customers looking for an even more efficient, and affordable, variant of the car can opt for the diesel-powered S350 CDI.
Among some of the features, the S400 gets a Burmester 3D surround sound system, a seat massaging system, LED headlamps, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, etc. Safety net includes 8 airbags, ESP, brake assist, hill-hold, ASR, and a lot more
Mercedes-Benz will be launching 12 new models in the country this year. The S400 is the third launch by the manufacturer for 2016 after the GLE 450 AMG and S600 Maybach.
