In December 2021, Mercedes-Maybach revealed its off-road luxury concept vehicle. It was an all-electric, bespoke model designed by fashion designer Virgil Abloh, and was called Project Maybach. Fast forward to the present day, the electric concept that was unveiled to honour the famed fashion designer, who passed away in November 2021, is now on display at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai. It will remain on display till October 31, 2024, offering a glimpse at the stunning two-tone exterior.

First launched during Miami Art Week, the Mercedes-Benz Project Maybach has been built from scratch and is 'unlike anything' the company has ever produced. This concept show car is a product of a collaboration between Virgil Abloh and Daimler design chief Gorden Wagener. Inspired by 'the great outdoors', Project Maybach is an off-road model with a roof rack, rugged tyres, and other off-road accessories.

Project Machbach aims to 'recontextualise a traditionally urban brand within a distinctly off-road environment', and is designed as a 2-seat, battery-electric off-road coupe combining conventional Gran Turismo proportions, large off-road wheels, and distinctive attachments. The show car measures 6,000mm in length, which makes it 745mm longer than the S-Class EWB (extended wheelbase).

Outside, the concept car features a vertical chrome grille, a long hood, a low-slung greenhouse, a silver skid plate, and auxiliary lights. The rear end too gets a skid plate, along with a brush guard. The headlamps and taillamps are round units. The leather-bound interior includes an infotainment screen, jacquard houndstooth-finished headrests (which doubles as blankets), and dashboard controls.

The powertrain details are yet to be revealed. Nevertheless, Mercedes-Benz says that the solar panels underneath the long, transparent bonnet will extend 'the imagined range'.
