Mercedes-Benz India rolled out the locally assembled C 220 CDI sedan from its Chakan manufacturing facility in Pune. It is available in two variants -- C 220 CDI Style at Rs 37.90 lakhs and Rs 39.90 lakhs for the C 220 CDI Avantgarde (both ex-showroom, Delhi, prices). The local production of the sedan has started three months after the C-Class diesel made its debut in India. The C 220 CDI will now be available in all Mercedes-Benz dealerships across India.
Mercedes-Benz India has managed to increase the localisation content in the new C 220 CDI to 60 per cent. According to the German car maker, the local production of the C 220 CDI underlines Mercedes-Benz’s continuous efforts in creating excellence in manufacturing from India and support the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the government.
At the launch, Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director & CEO, Eberhard Kern said, "With the local production of the new C 220 CDI and in tune with its 'Make-in-India' commitment, Mercedes-Benz India has now an increased localisation content of 60 per cent in this car."
Kern added,"We are glad to commence the local production of the C 220 CDI and are confident that we will be able to cater to the increasing demand of this world winner for our discerning customers.
Mercedes-Benz also announced the launch of the 'Corporate Star Lease programme'. "We have launched the 'Corporate Star Lease' product, a dedicated leasing solution from Mercedes Financial Services that will bring immense value for our potential corporate customers," Kern said.
The Chakan manufacturing capacity has the capacity to make 20,000 units per annum.The company currently rolls out C-Class, E-Class and S-Class luxury sedans, along with the M-Class and GL-Class luxury SUVs, from the plant.
