Mercedes-Benz commences passenger-car production in Brazil. Workforce of the new facility trained by Mercedes-Benz India at its manufacturing base in Pune.
Mercedes-Benz has set up a new production unit in Brazil. The manufacturing site is located at Iracemápolis in the Sao Paulo metropolitan area of the country. Production of Mercedes’ passenger cars has already commenced at the location. The first car to roll-off the production line was a C-Class sedan.
As per Mercedes-Benz, the new facility in Brazil was built with a total investment of over BRL 600 million (~ Rs 110 crore) and will create 600 jobs at the plant. Annual production is capped at 20,000 units in the first phase. Beginning summer, production of the GLA crossover will also commence at the facility.
Mercedes-Benz India claims that the workforce of the company’s newly inaugurated plant in Brazil was trained at its Pune facility among other plants of the manufacturer.
Commenting on the development, Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “It’s a matter of immense pride for us that Mercedes-Benz India was chosen to train the Brazilian colleagues and familiarize them with the production process, towards setting up the new assembly plant in Iracemápolis. India is a forerunner amongst Mercedes-Benz’s assembly plants globally, and in the past we have already supported the plant in Vietnam in the global network. Both the teams gained in creating trust, a bond of friendship beyond cultures and continents, and being an ideal example demonstrating the strength of collaborative working. Our contribution in training the Brazilian colleagues also strongly underscores our prowess and rich experience in local production of luxury cars, which we have pioneered 20 years back in India.”
The new manufacturing unit in Brazil is part of Mercedes-Benz’s global assembly network, which mainly includes production units in developing nations such as India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
