Mercedes-Benz India has teased an upcoming AMG, and we strongly believe that it could be the Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe. Interestingly, it could also be locally produced and could have competitive pricing.
At the launch of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the German carmaker silently teased an upcoming AMG car for the Indian market. Positioned alongside the E-class in the presentation, the car in covers is likely to be the Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe. What gives away its coupe body style is the evident front door handle, although the rear one is nowhere to be seen. However, it is too soon to speculate if Mercedes-Benz India plans on launching the AMG Coupe or not. However, if the speculations hold true, the Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe could be positioned above the Mercedes-AMG C43 in the manufacturer’s portfolio.
The car that is expected in the Indian car market could be the one with Mercedes-Benz’s all-wheel-drive 4MATIC system. The E53 coupe gets a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, along with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which adds 21bhp and 250Nm of torque. The engine could be tuned to produce a total of 423bhp and 520Nm of torque. The gearbox on offer could be a nine-speed automatic unit. The claimed 0 – 100kmph timing for the Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe stands at 4.3 seconds.
If the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe is launched in the coming months, it could also be one of the locally produced AMGs at Mercedes-Benz’s Pune facility. Along with localisation, expect Mercedes-AMG to price the upcoming sports coupe very competitively, around the Rs 90 lakh mark.
