Mercedes-Benz GLS Facelift Launched in India at Rs 1.32 Crore, Gets Updated MBUX, Design, and More

The facelifted Mercedes-Benz GLS finally went on sale for Rs 1.32 crore and Rs 1.37 crore for petrol (GLS 450) and diesel (GLS 450d) variants, respectively. Both mentioned prices are ex-showroom figures.

Mercedes-Benz started 2024 on a high note with the launch of the facelifted GLS in India today. As per the brand, there are multiple car debuts lined up ahead for this year. In April 2023, the model's updated version made its global premiere with a few mechanical and cosmetic updates. Several global markets offer the redesigned SUV in four trim levels: GLS 450 4Matic, GLS 580 4Matic, GLS 350d 4Matic, and GLS 450d 4Matic. However, in India, the carmaker has introduced the 450 series in petrol and diesel variants. The facelifted GLS went on sale for Rs 1.32 crore and Rs 1.37 crore for petrol (GLS 450) and diesel (GLS 450d) variants, respectively. Both mentioned prices are ex-showroom figures. Here are all the details regarding the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS's powertrain, design elements, feature set, and more.

Mercedes-Benz GLS Facelift: Styling Cues

Facelifts typically result in many potential aesthetic improvements. Mercedes-Benz has redesigned the GLS SUV with a few new interior and exterior changes. The model will sport a larger, more modern grille with four Silver Shadow-finished horizontal louvers. A revised LED headlight pattern, a front bumper with gloss black outlines, and a new air intake design are among other noticeable visual modifications. The brand-new 20-inch wheels will also be included with the Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift.

Mercedes-Benz GLS Facelift: Powertrain Options

Speaking of available engine options, the 2024 version of the GLS comes with a choice of petrol (GLS 450) and diesel (GLS 450d) powertrain. The former is driven by a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged petrol mill with a peak torque of 500Nm and 360bhp of maximum power. Meanwhile, the latter comes with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel unit. It cranks out 325bhp of peak power and 700Nm of torque. Notably, a new mild-hybrid system, which adds 20bhp and 200Nm of torque under heavy load, is mated to the engines in both cases. A nine-speed automatic gearbox manages the transmission, and the brand's 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system distributes power to all four wheels. It also includes three drive modes: Eco, Comfort, and Off-road.

Mercedes-Benz GLS Facelift: Interior and Safety Features

The interior of the cabin boasts a new leather upholstery theme in Catalana Beige and Bahia Brown, as well as a new Glossy Brown lime trim wood. Moreover, the luxury car manufacturer has redesigned the MBUX system, introducing a new user interface with three unique graphics: Classic, Sporty, and Discreet. In addition to this, there is a revamped steering wheel for the GLS and AMG GLS, and the standard version has air-con vent louvres finished in galvanised silver shadow, inspired by the Maybach GLS.

Another major upgrade is the Parking Package, which includes a permanent low-speed 360-degree camera and an off-road mode with various camera viewpoints around the vehicle. Additionally, a new off-road mode displays the compass, lateral inclination, and steering angle on the main screen. Connected car tech, Four-zone climate control, adjustable front seats, a premium Burmester 3D surround sound system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, a USB port, a panoramic sunroof, and a power-operated tailgate are also part of the feature list. As for the safety features, there are nine airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Mercedes-Benz GLS Facelift: Competition Check

In terms of rivals, the new Mercedes-Benz GLS will continue to face competition in the domestic market from other premium models like the Land Rover Discovery, the BMW X7, the Audi Q8, and the Volvo XC90.
