Mercedes-Benz has become the number one luxury car maker in India for the 2015 calendar year by selling more cars than Audi. And the German luxury car giant is taking no respite as the 2016 calendar kicks off, with the launch of its new GLE 450 AMG Coupe. Based on the platform of the current generation GLE-Class (which is essentially the M-Class), this 450 AMG iteration is a performance oriented model as its name suggests. However, Mercedes is looking to stress on the ‘sporty’ nature of the vehicle further with the ‘Coupe’ bit that has given the SUV a coupe-like roofline that slopes rearwards and blends onto the rear of the car in a seamless manner.

As you can see, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is aimed squarely at the BMW X6. The GLE 450 AMG Coupe though is aimed at a more spirited audience with its 3.0 litre V6 Biturbo petrol engine which develops 367 bhp of power between 5,500 rpm and 6,000 rpm and 520Nm of peak torque between 1,800 rpm and 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The combination gives the car a 0-100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds and an electronically limited top-speed of 250 km/h. There is also a performance exhaust system to add to the drama.

To rein in all that power the braking system of the car gets an optimized cooling system. The car also gets adaptive brake lights so as to not dazzle traffic behind every time the brake pedal is pressed. There is also an automatic high beam function with broad illumination.

The sporty nature of the is accentuated by the AMG front apron, AMG badges and lip spoiler along with five-spoke 21 inch AMG alloy wheels. Inside, the instrument cluster gets chequered flags dials.

Mercedes-Benz is offering the GLE 450 AMG Coupe in a choice of five colours to choose from.

Mr. Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes Benz India said, “We are glad to kick-start 2016 by introducing a thrilling and powerful product from our global portfolio, the GLE 450 AMG Coupé. At Mercedes-Benz it is our constant endeavour to bring the best products for our discerning Indian customers. The GLE 450 AMG Coupé is a valuable addition to our versatile SUV portfolio in India. We believe that these distinctive qualities will fulfil our customers’ expectations leaving them spellbound with an unmatched combination of a luxurious and sporty drive experience.”

Mercedes-Benz India is looking to launch 12 new models in the 2016 calendar year and will open 10 new dealerships across the country during the year.
