Considering how refined the diesel fueled GLE is, we can only imagine how silky smooth a ride the petrol GLE 400 will have.
The diesel ban may very well have been lifted in the National Capital Region allowing Mercedes-Benz to sell its diesel cars in the region. But Mercedes-Benz is going all guns blazing anyway and has now also launched a petrol version of its GLE luxury SUV in the country in the form of the GLE 400 4Matic model.
Until now, the Mercedes-Benz GLE was on sale with the choice of two diesel engine options, a 2.2 litre, four cylinder turbo diesel unit or a 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel engine. With prices ranging between Rs. 62.85 lakh to Rs. 74.12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new GLE 400 4Matic marks the entry of a petrol variant for the SUV at Rs. 74.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The new Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 4Matic is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine developing 328bhp of max power between 5,250 – 6,000 rpm and 480Nm of peak torque at a very handy 1,600 rpm to a very usable 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to Mercedes’ 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox and power is sent to all four wheels via Merc’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system. Mercedes claims the top speed of this petrol fueled GLE is an approximate 247 km/h.
Standard equipment on the car includes six airbags. LED headlamps, sunroof, active parking assist with 360 degree cameras, air suspension with adaptive dampers that allow the car to be raised to have 232mm of ground clearance while driving off-road. At higher speeds the suspension can be lowered by 15mm for better high speed stability and body control. The luxury SUV also gets a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system with 14 speakers, COMAND infotainment system with a host of features and an 8 inch screen. Safety feature highlights include Crosswind Assist, Attention Assist, Active Parking Assist and Brake Assist apart from the usual anti-lock braking system, traction control, etc.
Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented on the launch of the petrol GLE by saying, “Mercedes-Benz has the most comprehensive luxury SUV portfolio in the country. With the launch of the GLE 400 4MATIC, our discerning customers will now have the option of choosing between the petrol and the diesel version of our highest selling SUV. The GLE has been the highest selling SUV ever and with a growing penchant for SUVs among customers, we believe the introduction of the petrol version will further bolster our presence in the luxury SUV segment. For the first time, we are introducing the GLE with a petrol mill and this underscores our strategy of offering the right product for our growing customer base. This is the fourth SUV we have introduced this year and with this variant, we now offer our bestselling SUV in 4 different options, GLE 250 d, GLE 350 d, GLE 400 and the dynamic GLE 450 AMG Coupe.”
As a luxury petrol SUV, the new Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 has no direct rival in our market.
