Mercedes-Benz bids farewell to the G500 V8 model in a manner befitting its legendary status. With a rich heritage spanning over 30 years, the G-Class has become synonymous with performance, luxury, and off-road prowess. In 1993, Mercedes embarked on a significant transformation by partnering with AMG to build the first test vehicles in Affalterbach. This collaboration resulted in the creation of the 500 GE, marking a pivotal moment in the history of this iconic G-Wagen. The 500 GE was given a proven eight-cylinder engine from the brand's passenger car range, and it was subsequently introduced at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show. This V8 engine is capable of delivering 237bhp of power and 375Nm of torque from a displacement of 4,973cc. Fast forward to 2023, Mercedes-Benz is celebrating the G500's 30th birthday with a limited production of 1,500 units, which also signifies the end of an era for the twin-turbo V8 engine in the G500 model.
