The all-electric version of the Mercedes-Benz G Wagon is expected to go on sale next year in India. The bookings for the all-electric G Wagon, which will be launched as the G 580 with EQ tech, are currently open. The latter includes a revised A-pillar, spoiler lip and sculpted bonnet. Also present is the newly designed alloy wheels. However, the overall silhouette remains the same as the standard G-Class. Inside, the G Wagon EV gets dual 12.3-inch digital displays, passenger-side grab handles, an updated voice assistant (with about 20 distinct commands), and a 360-degree camera. As optional extras, Mercedes-Benz offers twin 11.6-inch touchscreens and a Burmester 3D sound system, among other things.

Mercedes-Benz G Wagon EV: Powertrain
Under the hood, the Mercedes-Benz G Wagon EV has a four-motor, all-wheel-drive setup – one motor on each wheel. The setup makes 579bhp and 1,164Nm of peak torque, resulting in a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.7 seconds before topping out at 180km/h. The motors draw power from a 116kWh battery packed into a ladder frame. The range figure is yet to be known; however, Mercedes-Benz says that the battery can be charged at up to 200kW. Using a DC fast charger, it takes about 32 minutes to go from 10 to 80 per cent. The battery is also compatible with an 11kW AC charger.

For off-roading, the G Wagon EV packs in three bespoke functions – G-Turn, G-Steering, and G-Crawl. The G-Turn feature enables the vehicle to rotate on the spot, while the G-Steering allows you to take tighter turns off-road by activating torque vectoring. The G-Crawl function can make the vehicle crawl at speeds as low as 2km/h.
