With the G 350d, Mercedes' luxury off-roader, for the first time in India, arrives in a non-AMG variant.
If you thought the Mercedes G63 AMG is a bit too wild & expensive for everyday use, well, worry no more as Mercedes-Benz India has, for the first time, launched a diesel derivative of the G-Class in the country, in the form of the G 350d. The Mercedes-Benz G 350d has been launched at ₹ 1.5 crore (Ex-showroom), which makes it more affordable by about ₹ 69 lakhs when compared to its AMG sibling. With this, the G-Class officially enters the non-AMG model line-up in India for the first time.
Powering the G 350d is the same BS-VI compliant 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel motor that powers the 350d variants of the S-Class & E-Class. In the G 350d, the motor produces 282bhp & 600Nm of torque. The G 350d also happens to be the most fuel-efficient G-Class derivative on sale currently. The OM656 motor comes paired to a 9G‑TRONIC torque converter automatic transmission, that helps the G 350d breach the 100km/h mark in just 7.4 seconds. The G 350d has an electronically-limited top speed of 199km/h.
Visually, the G 350d is a toned-down version of the G63 AMG, in the sense that it does not get the sporty & dynamic AMG design elements (like the AMG grille, large 22-inch wheels, humongous red brake callipers & ventilated discs). However, signature G Wagen design cues like the round headlamps, squared-off wheel arches & the boot-mounted spare wheel remain shared with the G63.
Inside though, the G 350d still remains the luxurious beast as its AMG counterpart. The MBUX infotainment system continues to get two 12.3-inch displays. Additionally, Mercedes is also offering Phase 2 of the recently-launched MeConnect service on the G 350d. To make life a bit easier for G 350d customers in India, the Mercedes Star Ease Maintenance Package (for 2 Years) for the G 350d is available at an attractive price of ₹ 79,500.
