Mercedes-Benz has teased yet another all-electric vehicle in the ‘EQ’ vertical. This time it is a battery-powered T-Class that will make its first global appearance on May 10, 2021
The German marque recently unveiled its flagship all-electric sedan, the EQS. Following was the global appearance of the EQB all-electric crossover at the Auto Shanghai 2021. And now, Mercedes-Benz Vans has given out a teaser of what is an all-electric MPV. The concept has been dubbed the EQT, which will be its final production name. The EQT will be the all-electric version of the T-class – that is a light commercial vehicle – interestingly, the electric version has been aimed at families and private users. However, we believe a version of EQT specific for light commercial duties could be in the making and will debut in the coming months. For now, the EQT concept is Mercedes-Benz Vans’ priority and the all-electric MPV will be showcased digitally on May 10, 2021.
The upcoming electric MPV will be oriented largely towards customers who enjoy leisure activities with their families, unlike the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, which offers a business class experience to its customers. However, the EQT, despite being in the electric ‘EQ’ vertical, will be positioned below the V-Class in the Mercedes-Benz’s product hierarchy.
In mid-2020, Mercedes-Benz gave out a teaser image of its new T-Class that is said to make its debut in 2021. This makes us believe, that Mercedes-Benz could offer the all-electric MPV, the EQT for family duties, and the I.C engine-powered T-class for buyers in the light commercial segment.
Will the Mercedes-Benz EQT be launched in India?
While there is no confirmation from the manufacturer, most likely Mercedes-Benz will consider the EQT for the Indian market, as our nation has recently seen a growth in demand for the seven-seater MPVs and crossover segment. However, the German carmaker will likely launch the new generation of Mercedes-Benz C-class (W 206) before the festive season, along with its long-wheelbase version that was showcased at the same Auto Shanghai 2021 show.
