The EQS 580 4MATIC is the 14th ‘Made in India’ Mercedes-Benz model. Moreover, India becomes the first market outside Germany to locally assemble this model.

After much anticipation, Mercedes-Benz launched the EQS 580 4MATIC EV at ₹1.55 crore (ex-showroom). This locally-assembled Completely-Knocked Down (CKD) version is the second iteration of the EQS to arrive in India, after the full-fat AMG EQS 53 that was launched here last month. And compared to the EQS 53, which retails at ₹2.45 crore (ex-showroom) since it is imported as a CBU, the EQS 53 is priced at about ₹90 lakh less. However, what makes the EQS 580 standout is the fact that it is officially India’s longest-range EV, with an ARAI-certified range of 857kms.

For the asking price, you also get the world's most aerodynamic production car. Yes, with a coefficient of drag (Cd) of just 0.20, it's slipperier than even its AMG sibling (Cd 0.23). The EQS 580 draws power from a 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack (same as the AMG EQS 53) that sends power to two electric motors. Thanks to the presence of 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive, one motor powers each axle and combined, they put out 516bhp and 855Nm of torque. With these figures, the 2,585kg-EQS 580 can do the 0 – 100km/h dash in just 4.3 seconds.

While the EQS 580's drivetrain is based on a 400V architecture, it can support 200kW DC fast charging, which allows it to gather a range of about 300kms in just 15 minutes!

Feature-wise, the EQS 580, as expected, is loaded to the gills with some top-of-the-shelf equipment. And the list begins with the brand's famed MBUX Hyperscreen – three screens joined together (two 12.3-inch screens and a 17.7-inch centre infotainment screen) within a single housing. As a result, the Hyperscreen is actually a single-piece unit that runs across the width of the dashboard. Also present inside is a 710W 15-speaker Burmester 3D sound system, head-up display, and front massage seats.

In terms of safety, the car offers features like nine airbags, lane keep/change assists, and an emergency stop system. Thanks to these, the EQS 580 also boasts the highest five-star crash test safety rating by the Euro NCAP.

The EQS 580 is on sale with five exterior colour options and two interior upholstery options. And, if you happen to be one of the first 500 customers, you can also enjoy rear-wheel steering on your EQS!
