Mercedes-Benz is set to launch the highly anticipated EQS 450 5-seater and G 580 in India tomorrow, expanding its premium lineup in the country. The EQS 450 is an all-electric luxury sedan that promises exceptional performance, advanced technology, and a sleek design, catering to the growing demand for sustainable mobility. Meanwhile, the G 580, a part of the iconic G-Class, continues to combine rugged off-road capability with refined luxury. Both vehicles are expected to raise the bar for automotive innovation in India, offering a blend of cutting-edge features and enhanced comfort. This launch will mark a significant step for Mercedes-Benz as it strives to strengthen its presence in the Indian market with these high-end, technologically advanced models.
Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 (5-seater): Exterior, Mechanical Details
As of now, the German carmaker offers the EQS 580 4Matic and the Maybach EQS 680 SUVs in India. The upcoming EQS 450 will serve as the entry-level variant and will be available exclusively as a 5-seater offering. In terms of pricing, the EQS 450 is expected to cost approximately Rs 1.40 crore (ex-showroom).
Coming to the mechanical side of things, the model will be powered by the same 122kWh battery pack used in the 7-seater model, delivering 536.5bhp and 858Nm of torque with a dual-motor setup. It will feature 200kW DC fast charging, capable of charging the battery from 10 to 80% in 31 minutes.
Design-wise, the EQS 450 will share similarities with the EQS 580, featuring a closed-off grille, twin LED headlights, a full-width LED light strip, wraparound taillights, and likely new 21-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the car promises features like a five-speaker Burmester audio system, a 56-inch Hyperscreen with a 17.7-inch infotainment unit, dual rear-seat entertainment screens, Energizing Air Control Plus, nine airbags, hand-stitched upholstery, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and five-zone climate control.
Mercedes-Benz G 580: Key Details
The G580, also known globally as the EQG, is built on the G-Class platform but incorporates Mercedes' EQ electric technology. Although it retains the iconic G-Class silhouette, the G580 features an electric powertrain. The vehicle's front grille is designed with an illuminated octagonal panel and a prominent company logo, and buyers can select between a charging cable storage compartment or a tailgate-mounted spare tyre. To improve its aerodynamics, the SUV has undergone modifications to the rear wheel arch air curtains, bonnet, A-pillar cladding, and rear spoiler. Expected to be priced above Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom), the G580 will be imported as a CBU.
The G580 is powered by a four-motor all-wheel-drive system, producing 579bhp and 1,164Nm of torque. This setup allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 180km/h. The vehicle’s 116kWh battery, housed in a ladder frame, offers a range of up to 473 km per charge. It supports fast charging at up to 200kW, with the battery charging from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 32 minutes. Additionally, the G580 can be charged with an 11kW AC charger.

Inside, the G580 shares similarities with the standard model, featuring two 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. The electric SUV also introduces unique features, including G-Turn, G-Steering, and G-Crawl. G-Turn enables the vehicle to rotate in place, G-Steering provides enhanced off-road handling with tighter turns via torque vectoring, and G-Crawl allows the SUV to move at a slow 2km/h pace for crawling through rough terrain.
