Mercedes-Benz has launched the much-awaited EQA, an all-electric SUV, in India. The premium German carmaker's smallest e-SUV in international markets, the EQA, is based on the petrol-powered GLA. It is positioned below the EQB, which has also received several significant updates. Although the global-spec EQA is available in four versions – EQA 250, EQA 250+, EQA 300 4Matic, and EQA 350 4Matic, the India-spec model comes in a single long-range 250+ variant. The new EQA 250+ competes with models such as the BMW iX1, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Volvo XC40 Recharge. Starting with the price, the newly launched Mercedes-Benz EQA 250+ is available for purchase at an ex-showroom price of Rs 66 lakh. On the other hand, the BMW iX1 electric SUV, offered in a single fully loaded M Sport variant, retails for Rs 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

The electric drivetrain of the new Mercedes-Benz model is its key component. The EV is equipped with a 70.5kWh battery and a front-axle-mounted electric motor, generating 385Nm of peak torque and 188bhp of maximum power. It has a WLTP-certified driving range of 560 km. Performance-wise, the EQA offers a top speed of 160km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.6 seconds. It is stated that the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in around 32 minutes, using up to 100kW of DC power. On top of that, it allows AC rapid charging up to 22kW.
The iX1 is driven by a 66.4kWh battery pack and two electric motors. The electric SUV is touted to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds. Furthermore, the total power and torque output ratings are 308bhp and 494Nm, respectively. It supports up to 11 kW AC charging and 130 kW DC fast charging and has a WLTP-certified driving range of 440 km. Owners also receive an 11 kW AC wall charger, allowing them to fully charge their iX1 in 6.3 hours as opposed to 29 minutes with a 130 kW DC fast charger.

In terms of dimensions, the EQA 250+ measures 4,463mm long, 1,834mm wide, and 1,624mm tall. The wheelbase and luggage compartment capacity stands at 2,729mm and 340 litres, respectively.
Meanwhile, the dimensions of the iX1 are 4,500mm in length, 1,845mm in width, and 1,616mm in height. It can hold up to 490 litres of storage and has a 2,692mm wheelbase.
