Mercedes-Benz E-Class, C-Class, S-Class and More Models Recalled in India Over ECU Software Issue
Mercedes-Benz recalled 2,543 E-Class units (April 29, 2022 – August 20, 2024) and three C-Class units (August 31, 2021 – October 31, 2021) over manufacturing issues.

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for multiple models in India, including the E-Class, C-Class, AMG E-Class, GLC, S-Class, G-Class, and the AMG GT. The initial two models were recalled due to a glitch in their electronic control unit (ECU), while the others were affected by a flaw in the fuel delivery module, necessitating their withdrawal. The recall aims to address a software anomaly that could impact engine performance and emissions compliance. As a precautionary measure, the luxury automaker will inspect and update the ECU software free of charge at authorised service centres. While Mercedes-Benz has not reported any incidents linked to this issue, the recall aligns with the company’s commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Mercedes-Benz Latest Recall
Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for 2,543 units of the E-Class, produced between April 29, 2022, and August 20, 2024. In comparison, three C-Class units, assembled between August 31, 2021, and October 31, 2021, are affected. It is important to note that all recalled models run on petrol.

As per the SIAM report, the problem originates from a fault in the ECU software, which may unexpectedly disable fuel injection when the vehicle exits sailing mode – a function that allows smoother coasting to enhance fuel efficiency and driving comfort. If the fuel supply is abruptly cut off, the car could lose propulsion without warning, increasing the potential for accidents.
Additionally, another recall covering the AMG GT, GLC, S-Class, G-Class, S-Class, and the E63 seeks to rectify a defect in the fuel delivery system. The flaw could result in a fuel pump failure, causing a sudden loss of power, which significantly raises the risk of crashes.

Mercedes-Benz has struggled with fuel pump issues on a global scale. In June 2023, the company had to recall nearly 80,000 vehicles over similar defects. These recurring problems indicate a systemic supply chain vulnerability, leading to repeated recalls and potential reputational setbacks. To maintain consumer trust, the German luxury carmaker must take stronger quality control measures and reinforce reliability across its lineup.
