Mercedes-Benz India will be launching a smaller diesel engined version of its E-Class early next month.
Mercedes-Benz India will be launching a smaller diesel engined version of its long-wheelbase E-Class on the 2nd of June, 2017. Badged as the E 220d, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class diesel will be powered by the company’s brand new 2.0 litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel mill. The other smallest capacity diesel engine in Mercedes-Benz cars in India is a 2.1 litre, four-cylinder diesel engine which is an older motor and will slowly be replaced by the new motor in India as well.
The new 2.0 litre diesel engine is good for 187bhp of max power and 400Nm of peak torque. Like the bigger E 350d available in India, this car too will come with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Just to give you a context here, the Mercedes-Benz E 350d with a bigger 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 develops 255bhp of power and 620Nm of torque.
Mercedes-Benz initially developed the new engine to run on Euro VI grade fuel but is tuning in to run on BS IV grade fuel.
The other E-Class variant on sale in India is the petrol fuelled E 200.
The E 350d is currently priced at Rs. 70.15 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the E 200 retails at Rs. 56.7 lakh. Expect the new E 220d to be priced around the same range as the E200.
