Buoyed by the demand of GLA, Mercedes-Benz has commenced local production of its compact SUV at its expanded facility in Pune. The Chakan plant is now capable of producing 20,000 units per year - more than any other luxury car manufacturer in Asia’s third largest economy.
The upgraded factory in Chakan was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Shri Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Environment , Forest and Climate Change, Shri Subhash Desai, Industry Minister of Maharashtra and Eberhard Kern, MD Mercedes-Benz India.
Speaking at the occasion, Eberhard Kern, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz India said, ‘’Rolling our first ever locally manufactured GLA and commencing production from India’s largest installed luxury car production facility are two very significant accomplishments for Mercedes-Benz in India.”
“These accomplishments are a result of our long term vision for the Indian market and our relentless efforts towards creating a strong foundation for our business in India. Our endeavors are all driven by our customer centric approach, as we believe in creating enhanced value for them.”
“GLA has been a sensation in the compact SUV segment in India and has witnessed an increasing demand from across the markets. Buoyed by this rising demand for the GLA, we took the decision to commence its local production and cater to even more customer wanting to own this stylish vehicle,” he added.
The locally produced GLA 200 CDI is priced at Rs 31 lakh while the Sport variant is available at a price tag of Rs 34.25 lakh.
