The SL 55 AMG Roadster was recently launched by Mercedes-Benz India, with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 2.35 crore. One of Mercedes-Benz's models with the longest history, the SL is now in its 7th generation. The 6th generation did not arrive in India; instead, the 5th generation SL, which made its debut in 2012, was the only one available here. The all-new model, which debuted in 2021 for the worldwide market, enters the Indian market via the CBU route. For the performance car, there are two trim levels and eight exterior colours to choose from. Mercedes-AMG SL 55 Roadster: Powertrain Details
A twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine paired with a 9-speed automated gearbox powers the AMG SL 55 Roadster. Compared to the top-tier AMG SL 63's 577bhp of maximum power and 800Nm of peak torque, this engine produces 469bhp and 700Nm. Even the V8 has been modified by the automaker for the SL. A redesigned oil pan, improved inlet and outlet ducts, relocated intercoolers, active crankcase ventilation, and revised engine mapping are just a few examples of the engine's modifications. The SL 55 has a peak speed of 295km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds thanks to its 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.
Mercedes-AMG SL 55 Roadster: Exterior Styling
Coming to the design, in place of the metal vario roof used on cars from the previous generation, Mercedes has opted for an electric soft top for the SL 55 Roadster. The result is a 21kg lighter convertible, which lowers its centre of gravity and improves handling and driving features. Even when travelling at 60km/h, the roof may be raised and closed in less than 15 seconds. New architecture, design, and tech are added to the soft-top roadster, along with a two-row seating configuration. The Panamericana grille, sweptback LED headlights, a sleek air dam, multi-spoke painted alloy wheels, ORVMs that have been blacked out, wraparound taillights, an adjustable spoiler, and quad-tip exhausts are just a few of the Roadster's external features.
