Mercedes-Benz has launched the AMG SL 55 Roadster at a starting price of Rs 2.35 crore (ex-showroom) in India. The German automaker has brought the seventh-generation SL model to the country via the CBU route. In our market, Mercedes-Benz last sold only the fifth edition of the SL in 2012. After that, It did not sell the sixth-generation SL here. Almost after a twelve-year hiatus, the firm has brought the SL model in its seventh-generation avatar to India. Interestingly, it is the first time Mercedes-AMG has produced the complete car in Affalterbach. For starters, the launch of the seventh-generation iteration of the SL series comes shortly after the market introduction of the AMG E 53 Cabriolet and the AMG GT 63 S E Performance. Mercedes-AMG SL 55 Roadster: Powertrain
The Mercedes-AMG SL 55 is already available on the global market. In terms of the powertrain, the seventh iteration of the SL range gets a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which produces 469bhp and 700Nm. For transmission, it uses a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. According to the brand, it can go from 0 to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds. Additionally, the AMG SL-55 Roadster sports Mercedes-Benz's 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system and claims an electronically-limited top speed of 295km/h.
Mercedes-AMG SL 55 Roadster: Exterior & Interior
As a part of its exterior, the recently launched AMG SL 55 Roadster has a Panamericana grille, a sleek air dam, multi-spoke black alloy wheels, blacked-out ORVMs, sweptback LED headlights, an adjustable spoiler, quad-tip exhausts, wraparound tail lights, and more. The brand has offered eight different paint options for the AMG SL-55 Roadster. The seventh-generation SL model has 20-inch alloys as standard. However, buyers get the choice to opt for a 21-inch alloy with a distinctive design.

In our market, the Mercedes-AMG SL 55 Roadster is available as a convertible with four seats. According to the brand, it chose a soft-top roof over a hard-top one for the model to save around 20kg. Mercedes-Benz claims that the new model's soft top can be opened and closed in 15 seconds at speeds of up to 60km/h. Dimensionally, the SL 55 roadster is 4,705mm long, 1,915mm wide, and 1,359mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,700mm.
Moving to the interior, the newly launched model sports a Nappa leather upholstery. Other notable highlights of the interior include an 11.9-inch vertically aligned MBUX touchscreen infotainment system, a HUD, a fully digital instrument console, ambient lighting, and other AMG-specific embellishments.

As mentioned, the Mercedes-AMG SL 55 has been launched in India at an introductory price of Rs 2.35 crore (ex-showroom). The company offers personalization options for the Mercedes-AMG SL 55 4MATIC+. The new AMG SL 55 will lock horns with the models such as the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet and the Lexus LC 500h. The SL has been a popular model for Mercedes-Benz in India, with nearly every version offered. How will the new model will perform on the sales front in our market is something only time will reveal.
