The GT S Roadster is the third drop top model in the AMG GT range.
Mercedes-AMG is extending its sports car portfolio with the new GT S Roadster. With this latest addition, the AMG GT range now has a dozen members - four two-door Coupes, three Roadsters, two customer sports racing cars and three four-door Coupes.
Compared to the base GT Roadster, the AMG GT S Roadster is rendered more dynamic by numerous modifications to the engine, suspension, brakes, design and interior. This positions it between the GT Roadster and top-end drop top, the GT C Roadster.
Power on the AMG GT S Roadster comes from the familiar 4.0-litre V8 biturbo motor that produces 515bhp of power and a max torque output of 670Nm. A sprint from standstill to 100km/h is absolved in 3.8 seconds and the GT S Roadster can accelerate all the way up to 308km/h. Power transmission duties are taken care of by a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.
On the outside, the GT S Roadster looks quite identical to other variants. Coming to that roof, it's a three-layered fabric soft top that is supported by a magnesium/steel/aluminium structure of low weight. Additional roll-over protection is provided by an integrated aluminium cross-member, while the inserted acoustic mat is claimed to improve noise comfort.
The GT S Roadster will also be offered with as many as four optional packages - Dynamic Plus, Exterior Carbon-Fibre, Exterior Night and Chrome. The Dynamic Plus package is the one that aids the car's dynamics, and includes options such as rear axle steering.
The Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster will be available to buy in overseas markets from July 2018. In India, AMG only offers the base GT Roadster - so it cannot be confirmed if the company will bring this specific model to our shores or not.
