The GLC Coupe gets the AMG treatment, set for global unveil at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October
Earlier this year at the New York Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz took the wraps off the coupe version of its GLC SUV. Like all its models, the GLC Coupe will also get the AMG treatment with a bigger heart and a sportier design. The luxury car maker has just revealed the GLC43 Coupe which will soon make its global debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October.
Just like any other AMG badged model, the GLC43 Coupe’s beauty is in its heart. Powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6, the GLC43 Coupe makes peak power of 362 horses and maximum torque of 520Nm. Mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, the GLC43 Coupe can do the 0-100kmph dash in just 4.9 seconds while its top-speed is electronically limited to 250kmph. Like all other aspects of an AMG, the gearbox too has been tweaked for quicker shifts. Although by default the shifts between gears is automatic, a switch to the manual mode can be made by the push of a button on the centre console. The all-wheel drive system has also been toyed with and it now distributes torque to the front and rear wheels in a 31:69 ratio.
The GLC43 Coupe comes with five driving modes – Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual that alter the engine, gearbox, steering wheel and suspension setup. Despite being a performance focused model, Mercedes has fitted it with cylinder shut-off and engine start/stop tech too.
In the looks department, the GLC43 Coupe looks sportier than its standard sibling. At the front as well as at the back it gets sportier looking bumpers. The larger and more aggressive looking alloy wheels accentuates the GLC43 Coupe’s unique profile.
Like all other beefed up AMG models, the GLC43 Coupe gets sporty interior with black upholstery which is complimented well by contrasting red stitching on the dashboard, steering wheel and the seats. The dashboard gets lots of carbon fibre bits while the seats get better lateral support for improved comfort. Mercedes has managed to endow the GLC43 Coupe with a touch of practicality too thanks to the 40:20:40 split seats at the back. The car comes equipped with 7-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
The GLC43 Coupe gets an edge over its direct rival, the BMW X4 M40i in terms of outright power as well as weight. The GLC43 Coupe makes 6.9bhp more than its rival in discussion and at the same time is 60kg lighter. Mercedes-Benz will first bring in the standard GLC300 Coupe to India in the first quarter of 2017 and the launch of the GLC43 Coupe will follow soon after.
