Mercedes-Benz will be unveiling the new GLC 43 AMG at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It is powered by the 3.0 litre bi-turbo V6 that does duty in the 43 versions of the C Class and E Class AMG models
Mercedes-Benz has released images and details of the new performance oriented version of the AMG 43 ahead of its world premiere at the 2016 New York Auto Show. The upcoming Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 is powered by the same 3.0 litre Biturbo V6 petrol engine that has been fitted recently to the new E 43 performance version of the new E-Class and also does duty in the C43 AMG.
The unit in the GLC 43 AMG develops 362bhp between 5,500 – 6,000 rpm and 520Nm of peak torque @ 2,500 – 4,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels by the company’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system. Although, the powertrain has a rear bias with 31 per cent power going to the front wheels and 69 per cent being transmitted to the rear wheels. The end result is that the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 can go from 0 to 96 km/h in 4.8 seconds and go on to a top speed of 248 km/h.
To deal with the added performance, the AMG GLC has been fitted with a four-link front axle with special steering knuckles and load bearing joints. The steering unit itself is designed to offer good feedback and can be adjusted between Comfort and Sport modes.
At the back there is a multi-link suspension setup. Both axles have a more negative camber to enhance lateral dynamics. The elastokinematics of both axles have been designed to be more rigid in general. The air suspension of the car can be adjusted to three settings - Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus.
"With the new AMG GLC43 we are offering an AMG model in the mid-size SUV segment for the first time. The new SUV from Affalterbach marks the pinnacle of the GLC product range and in the AMG portfolio it closes the gap between the GLA and GLE," said, Tobias Moers, CEO at Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
To match its performance oriented nature, Mercedes-Benz has treated the car to silver chrome and high gloss black colour accents. Some of these details can be seen in the air intakes in the AMG front bumper and front splitter. At the back there is an AMG spec rear apron with silver chrome detailing and quadruple chrome trimmed tail pipes. Also on offer are massive 20 inch high gloss black painted light alloy wheels and gloss black ORVM casings. Options include performance seats, carbon fibre trim elements, a night package and even bigger 21 inch bi-colour alloy wheels.
The interiors of the GLC 43 AMG get subtle hints of the vehicle’s nature with a black leather flat bottomed steering wheel with contrast red top stitching and sports seats. There is also an AMG instrument cluster with a checkered flag finish.
