Mercedes-AMG Electric SUV Prototype Teased Ahead of Global Debut

The upcoming e-SUV is based on the AMG.EA platform. Following the GT 4-door coupe, the SUV is the second AMG model to use this dedicated electric architecture.

Remember when Mercedes-AMG offered an exciting look at its upcoming high-performance electric SUV last month? Well, the German automaker is back with fresh images showing the prototype undergoing winter testing in Northern Sweden. Although the thick camouflage obscures key details, the SUV’s aggressive front end and sleek silhouette suggest a striking design that’s sure to turn heads. Mercedes-AMG's upcoming electric SUV, according to the first sketch images, has a muscular bonnet, coupe-inspired roof, and prominent fender lines. Built from the ground up on the AMG.EA platform, it's the first fully electric SUV developed in-house by the brand.

Following the GT 4-door coupe, the SUV is the second AMG model to use this dedicated electric architecture. While Mercedes-AMG hasn't shared details, the e-SUV is expected to debut globally in 2026. However, its availability in India is uncertain as of now. There are currently no details on the powertrain, but industry reports suggest that the upcoming SUV will combine formidable power with impressive efficiency. Built on the advanced AMG.EA platform, the SUV will support an 800V electrical architecture and cutting-edge axial-flux electric motors. These motors—developed by Yasa, a company based in Oxfordshire and owned by Mercedes-Benz—will be available in both dual and tri-motor configurations, each churning out 479bhp and 800Nm. With a total power figure projected to surpass 986bhp, the vehicle promises an exhilarating driving experience, underpinned by sophisticated power delivery and high energy efficiency.

While details about the upcoming AMG electric SUV remain largely under wraps, it's expected to position itself between the EQE (4,863mm) and EQS (5,125mm) SUVs in terms of size. Design-wise, the upcoming SUV will likely feature a reimagined Panamericana grille, sleek LED headlights with the sleek LED headlights with the iconic Mercedes-Benz star, bold lines, flared wheel arches, and an aggressive rear stance.
