Mercedes-AMG has finally revealed the all new E63 AMG and the E63 S with a twin turbo V8 and drift mode.
When the latest generation E-Class was officially revealed earlier this year, it was inevitable that the AMG division at Mercedes will soon get their hands on the car and give us an all new BMW M5 rival very soon.
Mercedes has finally revealed the all new Mercedes-AMG E63 coupe and sedan brothers with a sporty exterior and the heart of fire snorting monster. The engine is a 4.0-litre twin turbo charged V8 that churns out 571bhp at 5750 – 6500 rpm and 750 Nm of peak torque at 2250–5000 rpm in the standard car. The E63 S however with the same engine but develops 610bhp in the same rev band and 850Nm of torque at 2500–4500 rpm.
Both cars get the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed sports transmission and the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ permanent all-wheel drive with torque vectoring. But the ‘S’ version has another trick up its sleeve… it also comes with a DRIFT MODE!
All this help the standard car accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds while the E63 S AMG can do it in 3.4 seconds and is even 5 kilograms heavier. Both cars are limited to 250km/h, but you can bribe your dealer and he will remove it, to allow your car go up to 300km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.
You also get the four different AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport Plus" and "Individual". These settings allow the driver to change different aspects of the car to behave differently in certain conditions. But the E63 S has another mode labelled “Race” which firms everything up even more and makes the throttle, steering and gearbox more attentive in addition to a more simplified “Racestart” launch control system. Just set the car in Sport/Sport Plus/Race mode, put your left foot on the brake and simultaneously fully depress the accelerator pedal with your right foot is all that is required to trigger the system. The traction control system also has three separate modes, “ESP ON”, “ESP SPORT” and “ESP OFF”
Mercedes have also gone through the trouble of fitting a cylinder deactivation system with the engine which allows the car to shut down half its cylinders and save more fuel when not required. But at the slight nudge of the throttle will awaken all of them in the blink of an eye to bring them back to life if required. This has resulted in a fuel economy of 10.87km/l.
Mercedes is set to debut the new E63 AMG at the LA Auto Show in California on November 16, 2016. But it will be launched worldwide in March 2017, after which it is expected to arrive in India in the second half the next year.
