Mercedes-Benz has announced a series of vehicle recalls in India this year, with a significant rise in recent weeks. These recalls predominantly involve different trims of the E-Class, indicating possible safety or mechanical concerns. The models affected include the standard E-Class, the older-generation AMG E 63 S, the recently introduced CLE Cabriolet, and the E 53 4Matic+. By taking this step, Mercedes-Benz India aims to address potential defects and uphold its stringent quality benchmarks. The premium German automaker continues to emphasise customer safety and regulatory adherence. Owners of the impacted vehicles are urged to visit authorised service centres for comprehensive inspections and any necessary corrective actions.

Mercedes-Benz Recall: What You Need to Know

Due to a recurring technical issue, Mercedes-Benz has initiated a recall for certain E-Class-based models. The affected vehicles include 20 units of the E 53 4Matic+ manufactured between January 21, 2021, and January 20, 2023, as well as 50 units of the AMG E 63 S produced between September 14, 2022, and October 12, 2023. The most extensive recall applies to 2,543 units of the standard E-Class, built between April 29, 2022, and August 20, 2024.

As outlined on the SIAM website, the recall addresses a flaw in the electrical connector coupling associated with the transmission wiring harness. This component may not adhere to required specifications, making it susceptible to water infiltration over time. If moisture enters the system, it could result in an electrical short circuit. In parked vehicles, this could lead to overheating of the connector, increasing the potential risk of a fire-related incident.

Mercedes Benz CLE Cabriolet

Mercedes-Benz has expanded its recall beyond the E-Class and its high-performance models to include the CLE Cabriolet in India. This recall affects 59 units of the luxury convertible manufactured between April 13, 2024, and June 24, 2024.

The recall was initiated due to the unintentional exclusion of a vital warning label from the instrument panel’s side wall. This label is meant to inform users that the vehicle lacks an automatic shutoff function for the front passenger airbag. Without this information, there is a possibility that users may mistakenly believe a rearward-facing child seat placed in the front passenger seat would be automatically recognised, leading to improper placement. Since the airbag in this seat remains active at all times, positioning a child seat there poses a significant injury risk in the event of a crash where the airbag deploys.
