The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 Shooting Brake is a hot-blooded 302bhp/400Nm station wagon that shares its mechanicals with the A35 AMG hatchback.
Meet the new Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 Shooting Brake – the latest offering from Affalterbach to the performance hungry car enthusiasts. It shares the mechanicals with the hot A35 AMG, but unlike the hatchback, this thing here – as you can see – is a svelte and a deep yellow painted station wagon.
Under the hood of the CLA 35 AMG, there’s the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor that propels the A35 hatchback. The engine develops 302bhp and 400Nm of torque and sends it to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Performance wise, it’s quite brisk as expected. 0-100km/h takes 4.9 seconds – only 0.2s slower than the A35 despite having more weight.
Compared to the regular CLA Shooting Brake, the AMG derivative gets a beefed-up suspension, sharper steering and larger brakes. Adaptive suspension is optional, and so are 19-inch alloy wheels and AMG Aerodynamic Package, which brings along a more aggressive front splitter and a new spoiler. Inside, you’ll find Nappa leather sport seats along with an AMG steering wheel and aluminium pedals among other sporty bits and bobs. Mercedes’ latest MBUX infotainment system with two large screens is also a part of the standard kit.
Although the CLA 35 AMG Shooting Brake is the first performance-oriented wagon in the CLA series, it’s definitely won’t be the last. That’s because Mercedes-AMG recently revealed their latest 2.0-litre turbo engine with 416bhp and 500Nm, and this is expected to find its way into the svelte body of the CLA Shooting Brake as well – most likely to be billed as the CLA 45 AMG, as and when it happens.
As is the case with almost all these hot performance station wagons, you can already bury your hopes of seeing the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 Shooting Brake in India anytime soon, for it is most likely never coming here.
