McMurtry Speirling stunned the racing world by breaking the lap record at the Goodwood Hill Climb to a then-record-breaking 39.08 seconds last year. With the debut of the Speirling Pure at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, the British company has announced that it will produce 100 units of the compact electric hypercar. This decade is shaping up to be the age of extreme track-only hypercars, with cutting-edge vehicles like the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro, Gordon Murray's T.50 Niki Lauda, and the upcoming Bugatti Bolide. The Pure model's dual-motor e-axle in the back can produce 986bhp while weighing less than a tonne. The first consumer deliveries are expected to begin in 2025, after the debut of a working model at next month's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

It has bigger 270mm front and 300mm rear slick tyres mounted on smaller wheels (18 inches as opposed to 19 inches as previous year). A redesigned fan system reduces weight while increasing efficiency by 15 per cent compared to the previous design.

McMurtry Automotive has made changes to the brakes, chassis, power steering unit, pedal box, and electrical design in order to reduce weight without compromising handling. There have been some minor upgrades to the gearbox, as well as the addition of anti-lock brakes and a lighter battery with enhanced thermal management.

The same ideas that went into the first vehicle are there in the sequel: a carbon fibre monocoque chassis, a U-shaped 60kWh battery pack, and a 986bhp dual-motor rear axle. The Spéirling Pure is just 3.45 metres in length and 1.58 metres in width. Its short one-seat cockpit is entered by gullwing doors. The 60 kWh battery pack just takes 20 minutes to recharge and can power the car for 10 complete circuits around Silverstone.

All the bells and whistles Chilton used at Goodwood are standard on the production vehicle, which McMurtry is marketing as the Speirling 'PURE' (their caps lock, not ours). That's 60kWh of batteries powering a pair of electric motors that explode 985bhp at the back wheels.

Not only can it reach top speeds of 306km/h, but it can also generate 3Gs in the bends and complete 10 laps of Silverstone at race pace before needing to recharge and start all over again. In addition, a "qualifying" simulation may allow for even greater speed.
