As if the original P1 didn’t leave you awe struck, McLaren is all set to unveil a much more powerful track only variant of its supercar at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The Woking based company first teased about the P1 GTR six months ago while the car was still in concept form. Now that it has been extensively tested at race tracks around the world, most prominently at the Bahrain International Circuit, and the company feels it's the right time to make it available to the rich and the elite members of the society.
The P1 GTR boasts an enormous 986bhp power unit, which generates 789bhp from its 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine and the remaining from an electric motor. On other technical fronts, it produces 10% more horsepower than its road car variant and is 50 kg lighter.
The car comes in retro yellow and green livery that pays homage to its predecessor F1 GTR which won the iconic Le Mans race on its debut in 1995.
Another noteworthy feature about McLaren’s latest offering is the driver development programme that will help the owners get most out of the car. Buyers have access to company’s advanced simulators in their state-of-the-art factory, the McLaren Technology Center. The programme also includes 10 to 12 track sessions at FIA Grade 1 Circuits, where each driver will have its own garage and a dedicated crew.
McLaren is yet to unveil the jaw dropping price tag that one will have to shell out to have one of these iconic beauties in their garage, though reports suggest that it might cost as much as $3 million. Oh, and it will only be sold to existing P1 owners.
