A new hybrid successor for the legendary McLaren's P1 is planned to debut in 2026, according to documents shown to dealers in Woking. Following in the footsteps of the P1, McLaren reportedly used this week's global retailer conference to showcase information about a two-seat, hybrid V8 hypercar. The new hybrid system will create much more horsepower and send the power to the gearbox more directly, all while being up to 70% lighter than current-generation systems. The McLaren P1 successor will include an F1-style carbon tub with integrated seats, 3D-printed suspension elements, and F1-inspired aerodynamics. There have been rumours that McLaren intends to release an SUV in the year 2028. McLaren currently fields Senna, Speedtail, and Elva in its Ultimate series, which is its premier category.

McLaren P1 Successor: What to expect?

McLaren P1 GTR

Specific model name aren't listed for reference, however, the P1 from McLaren's hybrid lineup was discontinued in 2015. With a curb weight of 1487kg, the plug-in hybrid powerplant produced 904bhp. The Artura, a newer model, uses a 3.0-litre V6 hybrid powertrain to produce 671bhp while weighing just 1496kg.

This new vehicle should be pretty quick if its powerplant is as light as it claims to be and produces as much or more power than the Arturua. Lighter and more powerful than the P1 would be incredible improvements.

Mclaren SUV in 2028?

A less flashy but potentially crucial for McLaren's bottom line take away from the dealer meeting was discussed. Reportedly, the carmaker encouraged conference-goers to "stay tuned" for a new category of vehicle in 2028 that might accommodate four people and include four doors.

Although no other details were provided, the McLaren CEO Michael Leiters is fond of the SUV. Several sources claim the company is already at work on an SUV, while others say a sedan is in the works as well.
