McLaren softens the 570S for road-usage, reveals the more refined and luxurious version of the car - 570GT.
McLaren has introduced a new GT car to the range. Billed as the 570GT, the new model is the latest addition in the company’s Sport Series – which is now a three-model strong range including the 570S and 540C coupe models in addition to the 570GT.
As per the company, the 570GT focuses on day-to-day usability and long distance comfort as opposed to its track-focused siblings. Further, the 570GT is the most luxurious and refined model amongst the current crop of McLaren cars, insists the manufacturer.
So, how has that been done? Compared to the 570S, the GT derivative gets a number of practical touches. In addition to the coupe's front boot-space of 115 litres, the 570GT adds a further storage capacity of 220 litres, thanks to a new rear-glass panel that can be opened now. There’s also an extended fixed rear spoiler – 10mm taller than that fitted to the coupe models. The steering ratio has been recalibrated – lowered by two percent – to smoothen driver inputs at high speeds.
In addition to that, McLaren has reduced the spring rates by 15 percent at the front and 10 percent at the rear, giving it a road-biased and comfortable setup. The 570GT comes shod with specially developed noise-cancelling Pirelli PZero tyres that reduce the cabin noise by three 3 decibels. Inside, McLaren has raised the luxury quotient by adding all-leather interior, electrically adjustable heated seats, soft close doors, etc. The noise from the exhaust system has been toned-down as well.
Under the skin, things remain unchanged. The 570GT shares the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with the 570S, developing identical power and torque figures – 562bhp and 600Nm. Power goes to rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Thanks to all the modifications done in the name of “road-worthiness”, the 570GT is 37 kilograms heavier than the coupe. And that shows in its performance figures. 0-100km/h now takes 3.4 seconds – two-tenths slower than the 570S. Top speed is unchanged at 328km/h. The 570GT also misses out on carbon ceramic brakes of the 570S and gets steel discs instead.
The McLaren 570GT will go on sale by the year end, while it will be showcased at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March.
