Maserati revealed the pictures of its all-new four door saloon which will be called the
Ghibli. Ghibli is not an unfamiliar name to Maserati, as it was in 1966 that the same name was given to a GT car from the Maserati stable which had a 4.7-litre V8 engine. To be introduced at the Shanghai Motorshow soon, the Ghibli, will be a rear-wheel drive just like the  Quattroporte, but smaller and sportier.

Maserati plans to compete with the BMW 5-series, Audi A6, the Jaguar XF and even the Mercedes E-class with the launch of the Ghibli. The Ghibli will be the recipient of a 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 which will be the first-ever diesel from the luxury car manufacturer.

The Ghibli is also likely to get the 3.0-litre 410 bhp churning V6 petrol engine with all-wheel drive. Both engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Maserati plans to sell 50,000 cars per year by 2015 and its hunt to achieve that target begins with the Ghibli
